How to choose the right hiking or trekking backpack

The type of backpack you need depends on the kind of outings you take. If you typically go on short day hikes or a few-hour trek, a smaller-capacity pack is best.

For weekend or multi-day trips, you’ll want a backpack with more volume. It’s crucial to pick a comfortable pack that can handle the gear you’ll carry. Start by considering how many days you’ll be out, plus the equipment you need.

For a one-day outing, a 20–30 liter backpack is ideal. You can bring enough gear without weighing yourself down.

For a weekend trip, we recommend a pack of around 40 liters—or up to 50 liters if you need more room.
